Crayon Pop and its agency opened up on the many claims and accusations that had been sweeping the web since the group gained popularity.
Most of the accusations centered on the fact that some members of the group seemed to be users of the highly controversial website ′Daily Best (Ilbe)′.
Ilbe is a website that often makes issues for its far-rightist views, its degradation of the Gwangju Democratization Movements and discrimination against Korean women.
Other claims centered on the group′s sudden rise on the music charts, hinting at the possibility that the group had manipulated the charts.
There were also claims that the group had plagiarised for its concept from a Japanese girl group.
Chrome Entertainment was thus brought to say what it had to say in a press release issued on August 21.
"We wish to apologize for those who were hurt by the continuous controversies," it started.
The release first touched on some members′ use of such words as ′No Moo No Moo′ (A cute way of saying ′very very′ that is used by Ilbe in connection to former president Roh Moo Hyun (No Moo Hyun)) and ′Hobbler′ (Used by Ilbe to put down former president Kim Dae Jung) before they gained popularity.
Some officials had pointed out soon after the group continued to gather fame that it seemed the group used Ilbe as leverage to lodge itself in the minds of many internet users, while some netizens frowned at how the alleged users of such a controversial web community could gain popularity.
The controversy recently blew up when Crayon Pop started to advertise for an online shopping mall, bringing the mall to take down the ads for the time being.
The agency drew the line, saying, "Crayon Pop members are not members of Ilbe. The member just used ′no moo no moo′ in an effort to look cute."
"The member didn′t know that her comment could be interpreted in a political way, and she didn′t know that the word was used by Ilbe to put down the late former president Roh Moo Hyun. This is because she had never been on Ilbe," it said.
It did, however, apologize on how it had treated this issue.
"We apologize for putting up a tweet which said ′Pigs only see pigs and Buddha only sees Buddhas′ in reference to the incident," it said.
It also apologized for the use of the word ′hobbler′.
It said, "One member used the word ′hobbler′ when she saw another member limping. We′re surprised to find that the word can be used to put down the late former president Kim Dae Jung. We are, however, regretting that she used the word without thinking that it could hurt the feelings of those with real handicaps."
On the manipulation of charts, it simply said the claims "are not true," and said on rumors that a member is the daughter of a music download company that they are "malicious rumors."
It then explained about accusations of plagiarism that Crayon Pop "aims to be like DJ DOC," and added, "The helmet was thought up by a member as a way to emphasize their heads while they′re jumping."
